MANAGE AVAILABLE TECHNOLOGY AND/OR INFORMATION SYSTEMS IN THE DELIVERY OF PRIMARY CARE.
Throughout my clinical experience, I have learned the extreme importance of appropriate documentation. I have been able to learn how to operate various electronic medical records at the different clinical sites I have worked in and found each one to have both advantages and disadvantages. As advanced practice nurses, we must know how to appropriately document without being prompted. Relying on electronic charts and technology is not efficient nor providing quality care to patients. Technology is only good when you are using it to best benefit the patient. I have used both electronic charting and "old-fashioned" paper charting. Competent nurse practitioners can make it through their day with either one because they know how to properly assess, diagnose and treat her patients and how to properly document each of those steps. During graduate school, we tracked each patient encounters , diagnosis's and clinical day experiences within Medatrax. This allowed us the ability to have reports, logs and diagrams to present to the certification board such as the one shown below.
